Godzilla: King of the Monsters is the highly anticipated sequel to the Godzilla 2014 film by Gareth Edwards, and now that the Monsterverse has been firmly established, Godzilla is about to encounter his legendary Toho allies like Rodan and Mothra, and face off against his most fearsome nemesis, the Great King Ghidorah. Throughout the history of Godzilla, the world’s most famous monster has undergone significant Godzilla evolution, from the terrifying atomic emblem Gojira to the beloved protector he softened into, beginning with King Kong vs. Godzilla.

As Godzilla history marched on, the killer kaiju has faced more monsters than the Monarch organization can count, but in America, Godzilla has met with a mixed reception. From abandoned projects in the ‘80s to the disastrous Godzilla 1998, all the way to the upcoming Godzilla 2, Godzilla King of the Monsters looks like its continuing to buck the trend and giving us a Godzilla the entire world can be proud of. From the first Godzilla trailer, we knew these movies were more than just monsters, and since we saw the bestiary on display in every Godzilla King of the Monsters trailer, clip, and scene, our imaginations were in overdrive wondering how Godzilla vs. King Kong would play out in a post Kong Skull Island world. Hopefully Godzilla will continue to reign supreme, because it’s good to be the King.
