So Cold I Nearly Died Almost | Classic Hilux RC4WD TF2

It's been ages since I've been out filming for the channel... why? Well thanks for asking. Oh you know, it's just been stuff.

Shrugs.

Now I've explained that, the return of winter has got me keen to get out with the crawlers again (I've been racing buggies and various indoor things lately, having a great time and not filming it). There's something about the floods of water, mud and black skies that draws me to the 4WDs... or in this case, the ice, heavy frost and clear skies of a brief cold snap.

Yeah okay, we get all that in summer too, but the light is better now.

Somehow I got severely cold while filming this – utterly wooden fingers, short of breath and energy, that kind of thing – and warming back up again in the car was like going cold turkey from crack (I imagine). The sunset looks lovely but it was as cold as space up on those hills. I'm not looking for sympathy here but really I am, and I'm not going to blame you either but again I totally am. THANKS. FFS.

What better truck to take out for a first run in forever than the classic that is the Trail Finder 2? I love this thing, and it's had a bit of love too – I've swapped my brushless Fusion motor into it for the smooth quietness, and given the Luxy some new wheels. These are Boom Racing steelies; I just wasn't feeling the too-blingy alloys (and taller tyres) I tried on it before.

I also stripped the gearbox and transfer case to clean and regrease them (this thing's been through hell and very high water for years without me even opening them). To my amazement, both were still clean and well greased inside despite everything, and all the bearings were fine. Impressive.
