The Open Diagnostic eXchange (‘ODX’; ISO 22901-1) format was specifically designed with the aim to allow diagnostic testers to correctly formulate requests to ECUs and decode their responses. This led to a highly flexible, machine-readable data format that is able to be used in a huge number of ways to cover diverse process needs. The flip-side of this advantage though is that ODX data can be tricky for humans to work with and understand, making it easy for small mistakes to be made during authoring that are very difficult to find via manual inspection.
