Witches the musical takes witch trial facts from the actual courtroom history and notes to tell the story of some of the innocent victims accused of practicing witchcraft in Salem, MA.

Tituba confessed to save little Betty Parris. Sarah Good was homeless and swore a lot, so a natural target. Rebecca Towne Nurse was hard of hearing and confused by the courtroom proceedings. Bridget Bishop had previously been accused of witchcraft and found innocent so she thought it was all a joke and she would be found innocent once again. Giles Corey refused to speak in order to protect his homestead from being confiscated.

In 1692, a group of girls in Salem, MA began having convulsions, contortions, and outbursts of gibberish. The cause was suspected witchcraft. Here are some of the Salem Witch Trials of Tituba (slave to Reverend Samuel Parris, Sarah Good, Rebecca Towne Nurse (Nourse), Goody Proctor, Giles Corey and Bridget Bishop.

The Court of Oyer and Terminer was convened for the witch craft trials in Salem and spectral evidence (visions and dreams of witnesses) was allowed as evidence. It was not long after this that a new legal precedent was set where spectral evidence would no longer be allowed in courtroom trials.
