Quicksand Pond- Goosewing Beach breach

Описание к видео Quicksand Pond- Goosewing Beach breach

Quicksand Pond was manually breached October 24, 2018 to allow juvenile river herring, who were trapped in the pond, to migrate out to the sea. These young fish are the progeny of adults who had migrated into Quicksand Pond from the ocean last spring to spawn. The pond at that time was flowing naturally into the ocean, but during the course of the summer the outlet became plugged with sand. River herring (alewife and blueback herring) are anadromous, i.e., they live in saltwater but spawn in freshwater.
