We arrived in Rome just days after the passing of Pope Francis, to attend the UNIAPAC Conference. The city felt paused—quieter, reflective, conscious that history was unfolding in real time.

Together with Joey Avellana, UNIAPAC Director, and Ani Serrato, President of BCBP, we stepped onto Roman soil not as tourists, but as businessmen, Catholics, and pilgrims.

That first night stripped everything down. No reservations. No ceremonies. Just kebab and simple barbecue on cobblestone streets—standing, eating like locals, surrounded by quiet conversations and grill smoke. No titles. No agendas. Just reflection in an eternal city that has seen far greater moments than ours.

Rome teaches quickly: leadership is clearest without comfort; faith deepens when lived simply; and history does not wait for schedules. This was not a planned highlight—but it became a defining one.
