When I first moved into my house I noticed some unique spaces near the studio that would make for interesting "reverb chambers." So I stuck a mic, the Earthworks QTC50 and Lewitt LCT 440 Pure, into my tile bathroom, cinderblock closet, metal fireplace insert, and tall stairwell to capture the ambience of those rooms/spaces to add some real reverb to the drum mix. Just add a bit of compression to the mics and the really come to life. This technique is nothing new, one of the most famous examples is Led Zeppelin's "When The Levee Breaks" where the drums were drums were recorded in a stairwell and mics were placed at the top of the steps. By no means is my setup the same, but the concept is there!
