Colombo has been known since antiquity by Arab and Chinese traders. Muslim communities settled there as early as the 7th century (Jami Ul Alfar, Dewatagaha mosque). Then it is the Portuguese explorers, who first arrived in Sri Lanka in 1505
It will be after Dutch rule in the 18th century.
Finally the British won in 1802.
It is in 1948 that the island of Ceylon becomes independent in a peaceful way.
The buildings of the colonial era with various influences are still visible today and are even rehabilitated.
Today, in the 21st century Colombo is changing and will compete with the capitals of the future.
Thanks to foreign consortia with the agreement of the local ministries, skyscrapers are coming out of the ground.

Colombo est connu depuis l’antiquité par les marchands arabes et chinois. Des communautés musulmanes s’y établissent dès le 7e siècle (mosquée Jami Ul Alfar, Dewatagaha). Puis ce sont les explorateurs portugais, qui sont arrivés la première fois au Sri Lanka en 1505
Ce sera après la domination hollandaise au 18e siècle.
Enfin les Britanniques s’imposent en 1802.
C’est en 1948 que l’île de Ceylan devient indépendante d’une façon pacifique.
Les bâtiments de l’époque coloniale aux diverses influences sont encore visibles aujourd’hui et sont même réhabilités.
Aujourd’hui, au 21e siècle Colombo se métamorphose et rivalisera avec les grandes capitales du futur.
Grâce des consortiums étrangers avec l’accord des ministères locaux, des gratte-ciels sortent de terre.
