My understanding of Viewpoints in AC Shadows is that the team pretty obviously wanted to take a step toward the more freeform, player-directed exploration of something like Breath of the Wild or Elden Ring, but the way it actually works out in the end means it's a half-step based on what I experienced. While we have 5 different Player-Markers that are all different colors, the fact that Locations remain on your World Map after leaving the Viewpoint if you've Observed them means exploration probably feels a bit like existing AC with a minor extra step. Not as exciting as I imagined.

One thing that would let me personally enjoy them a lot more is if there was a setting, toggle or game-mode I could swap my game into that would make ?s fade away after getting down UNLESS we put a marker on them to track them.

Other than this, I didn't try much open world activities so I don't know how intriguing the actual locations are.
