San Antonio native Mario Bass recently took the reins of Visit San Antonio, the organization that markets the city to convention planners and tourists.

As San Antonio’s hospitality industry – one of the city’s biggest employment sectors – is grappling with economic headwinds and sluggish bookings, we talked to Bass about how he plans to attract more visitors to the Alamo City. We also discussed how major projects, such as expanding the Convention Center and San Antonio International Airport, could affect the industry.

Bass, who grew up on the city's South Side, has spent much of his 25-year-plus career in the tourism and hospitality industry here, including about six years at Visit San Antonio and around seven years at local hotels.
