Game of Thrones is an American medieval fantasy television series created by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss for HBO. The series is set on the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos.

The first season, which premiered on HBO in the United States on April 17, 2011, was based mostly on the first novel of George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" series, "A Game of Thrones", but also draws from the second novel, "A Clash of Kings". The second season is based mostly on the third novel "A Storm of Swords". The third season was based mostly on the fourth book "A Feast for Crows", while the fourth season was based mostly on parts one and two from the fifth book "A Dance with Dragons".
