The Singapore Flyer is a giant observation wheel offers 360-degree city views at Downtown Core, Singapore

It opened in 2008, with construction having taken about 2½ years

It carried its first paying passengers on 11 February, had a soft opening to the public on 1 March, and was then officially opened on 15 April

The Flyer has 28 air-conditioned capsules, each able to accommodate 28 passengers

It has an overall height of 165 metres (541 ft) or as high as 42 storeys

The Singapore Flyer is Asia's largest giant observation wheel.

Designed by Arup and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries with a capacity of up to 7.3 million passengers a year

Step into one of the 28 fully air-conditioned glass capsules, and be transported on a 30-minute journey of stunning day and night scenes

You can even enjoy a four course-meal, or sip on cocktails and champagne with the Singapore Flyer’s special in-flight packages

The Flyer with constant rotation that a complete trip lasts approximately 32 minutes

The wheel initially rotated in a counter-clockwise direction

On 4 August 2008 rotation of the Flyer was reversed

The official opening on 15 April, 2008 and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong was the guest of honour
