Making a claim on Credit Protection Insurance, or CPI, is typically a straight- forward process.

The process begins when you apply at your financial institution for life, critical illness, disability, or job loss CPI on a debt obligation for a mortgage, personal loan, or line of credit.

Your eligibility for coverage and the premium you’ll pay are determined at that time based on personal factors and your answers to some basic health-related questions. In some cases, you may be asked some additional health questions.

Once you’ve applied for CPI coverage, you’ll receive a Certificate of Insurance that describes the coverage, and its terms and limitations. After being approved for coverage, should you experience an insurable event and want to make a claim, you’ll need to report your event as described in the Certificate.
