Dancing the Jig in the Piper Cub - Fricktal Schupfart (LSZI) to Buttwil (LSZU)

This is a video of a short flight I made from Fricktal Schupfart aerodrome (LSZI) to Buttwil (LSZU) and back in the Motorfluggruppe Fricktal's Piper Super Cub (PA18).

One of my cameras on an extension stick sitting in the side pouch managed to capture my feet on the rudder pedals. So I include video showing my use of the rudder especially during landing and take off.

The Piper Super Cub is a taildragger which means the centre of gravity is behind the main landing gear. As a consequence if the plane starts to yaw on the ground there is a tendency for the yaw to accelerate. If this is left unchecked the plane will rotate around 180 degrees to its stable configuration so that the centre of gravity is in front of the main gear in the direction of travel. This is known as a ground loop. To stop this it is necessary to perform a balancing act with the rudder pedals. If one waits for the plane to respond to each rudder input the control actions will be too late and result in overcorrections which will produce greater and greater oscillations until a ground loop occurs. Therefore it is necessary to make continuous small rudder inputs similar to balancing a long pole with your hand.
