Xabi Alonso, as a player, was part of the greatest Spain national team of all time, he played under Mourinho at Real Madrid and Guardiola at Bayern Munich. So it stands to reason that he learnt a thing or two about coaching.

Now he is imparting his knowledge on Bayer Leverkusen. As manager, he took them out of the relegation zone last season, and this season has made them the most interesting team in the world right now.
