This Video Analyses How Video Games Create Empathy, and uses examples like Hellblade, Nier:Automata and Celeste to illustrate the Power of Interactivity in creating Love and Compassion. We analyze how Game Designers use systems, mechanics and avatars to project players into new roles and to care for others, and why Games are uniquely situated to do this.

Video games are a powerful vehicle for eliciting empathy,love and compassion, but our medium has very rarely explored this emotional range. Recently though, a broader array of emotions is being explored, and we now have games that demonstrate these abilities. In this Video, we create a framework to analyze empathy in games, the empathic circle, a combination of the magic circle and the expanding circle, and show how games can engender selflessness.
