For the first time, a Diesel Dual Fuel vehicle approved by the British Motor Sports Association (MSA) is racing in the BRITCAR – Dunlop Sports and Touring Cars Championship, thanks to the 100% Made in Italy technology of Ecomotive Solutions.
The Saxon Motorsport team car, a BMW M135 driven by Italy's Luca Demarchi, is fitted with a 3000cc, six-cylinder in-line diesel engine capable of delivering 370 HP, making it competitive on a high-calibre starting grid that also features more powerful cars.
What puts the BMW in a different class are its ecological credentials. Thanks to d-gid Diesel Dual Fuel technology developed by Ecomotive Solutions (in association with Autogas Italia and Astra Vehicles Technologies Ltd.), the Saxon Motorsport BMW is powered by a controlled mix of diesel and LPG which improves its environmental impact without compromising performance in any way.
Ahead of a regulation paving the way for the approval of dual fuel race cars powered by natural gas, this move sees Ecomotive Solutions demonstrate its flexibility, comprehensive technology and the value of its know-how. Indeed, the company has been engaged for years in converting industrial and commercial vehicles with dual fuel technologies that allow the use of alternative fuels alongside diesel, as a way to cut emissions and reduce fuel running costs.
Demarchi, the only Italian driver on the grid, has embraced the challenge and drove the Saxon Motorsport BMW in the very first race in the Britcar series at the Silverstone National Circuit, recording the second-best performance in the category. After further fine-tuning in the last few weeks, Ecomotive Solutions is now preparing to be alongside its partners at the second race in the championship, taking place in Donington, England.
