Incredible rescue of elephant lost swimming five miles out at sea - Daily Mail

The giant mammal was towed to safety by the Sri Lankan navy (pictured) in a 12-hour rescue operation after being spotted five miles out to sea. The desperate elephant was poking its trunk above the water to breathe when the sailors came to its aid (pictured inset). It is thought the animal was swept away when crossing the Kokkilai lagoon, which separates two patches of jungle.
