Go back in time to Kerry in 1964 and see what it's like to travel by train on some of the railway lines and rail yards no longer around since their demise in the 1980s or thereabouts. Gone is the North Kerry line from Limerick to Tralee (although the part from Limerick to Ballingrane is being restored as part of the Limerick to Foynes railway re-instatement project) and also gone is the Tralee to Fenit railway which has recently been converted to a Greenway. Parts of the old North Kerry line from Rathkeale to Abbeyfeale have also been converted to a Greenway. This footage shows parts of the Listowel to Tralee railway section from near Ardfert to Tralee, Tralee railway station and North Kerry rail yard (now Dunnes Stores). The railway crossings at Rock Street and Edward Street with both railway signal buildings are seen. Remnants of the Tralee Dingle narrow gauge railway are seen embeded in the street on North Circular Rd and crossing Edward street. The Tralee to Fenit shows the railway passing the old Mounthawk golf course before it diverges from the North Kerry line a little further north, as it passes south of Churchill with the Fenit pier in the distance, then snaking beside Tralee bay before it reaches Fenit. In 2023 the only railway remininants in Fenit are the footbridge and the rails on Fenit pier itself. Train then goes back to Tralee and on to Farranfore and Killarney which is still an active railway to this day.

Finally, lads and ladies, it's time to finish the Greenway from Listowel to Tralee. Seeing those beautiful Slieve Mish mountains come into view as the line meanders left and right around the hills towards Tralee is spectacular. One day I hope one will be able to cycle from Limerick to Tralee with ease and safety, blessed by Nature, along the path of the historic North Kerry line.
