Last week on Sea Ox, a 2007 Jeanneau 39i, I heard the dreaded "chirp" of a high-voltage alarm. It wasn't just a sensor glitch—it was the beginning of a marine battery "death spiral."

In this video, I troubleshoot a failing house bank and a high-output Balmar alternator system. When a cell in an AGM battery fails, it creates a compounding issue that can fry your electronics and tax your voltage regulator.

I originally planned a DIY Lithium (LiFePO4) conversion, but life and boat budgets got in the way. I’ll explain why I chose to stick with a 500 lbs AGM batteries for now and the physical reality of swapping five 75 lb batteries in the cramped aft cabin of a Jeanneau 39i.
