Unemployment is on the rise in Tunisia. Around 41 percent of people under 24 are unemployed. This situation partly explains why so many Tunisisans try to migrate to Europe hoping to earn a living and build a life for themselves. In 2023, Tunisians made up the second largest group arriving in Italy by boat. Some do try to migrate formally. But that too, is fraught with risk, as FRANCE 24’s team reports.
