A major topic of discussion at the World Health Assembly, WHO's decision making body that meets annually, is universal health coverage or UHC. UHC will be the foundation of achieving the health targets of the Sustainable Development Goals over the next fifteen years. With its focus on equity, UHC is critical to one of the main principles of the Sustainable Development Goals: leaving no one behind. A core element of achieving universal health coverage will be expanding access to primary health care. This is something that’s been a particular focus of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
