“No one on the incoming team has what Jared has, and that is trust,” said a regional diplomat who worked closely with Kushner during Trump’s first administration. “Jared earned it—he didn’t have it at the beginning. That takes time to build,” the diplomat added, pointing out that Kushner was relatively unknown in the region before becoming Trump’s chief Middle East negotiator.
