I was inspired by this video:    • "Pick of the Day" - 1960 Gibson Les P...
To offer a reality check about vintage Les Paul mythology. Sure they are great guitars, but the idea that they can never be reproduced, isn’t completely true. In the comments section of that video, you see some who think that only a vintage Les Paul has great clarity in the neck pickup. Well listen to THIS short noodling on one of my PAF replica sets to compare against the one in the video. There’s no lack of clarity there. These are the Corona Wire Set.
I’m not playing a zillion dollar vintage Les Paul. I’m playing a 2002 Epiphone ELITIST Les Paul. These were made in JAPAN, FOR GIBSON. They feature long tenon neck joints. REAL BRAZILIAN FRET BOARD, full maple cap, with NO VENEERS, bone nut, mahogany back, real abalone fret markers, Grover tuners. Gibson quit selling them because they were made too good, for much much less money than Gibson’s regular Les Pauls. I have 6 of these. But they are not stock. I like that Emerald City, didn’t hire some studio technician to gimmick the sound of that 1960 and left the audio raw and raunchy. When it comes to hundreds of thousands of dollars in sales for ONE old guitar, the hyperbole is laid on THICK :-) Just SAYIN’
The audio for this short was recorded in the room with a Zoom H6 recorder a couple feet from the Greenback 12M 12 inch speaker.
Enjoy!
