As per the rules on speedrun.com, "Select Battle Mode. Timer starts on shooting the World Map screen. Timer ends on last hit on Thanatos's second form."

Use the beat of the music to know when to start the timer, and look ahead to see when the in-game timer stops on the last opponent to know when to stop the timer.
