2003 B5.5 VW Passat 1.8T - duller than a Rover 75 but is that better?

The VW Passat was refreshed in 2001 to become the B5.5 and featured the 1.8 Turbo petrol engine, putting in direct competition with the 1.8T Rover 75, a very different car in the same segment, but is safe but dull better than interesting but possibly unreliable?
