𝗞𝗶𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗙𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲𝘀

eGFR is calculated using creatinine levels, age, and other factors. It helps classify kidney function into five stages:

Stage 1: eGFR above 90 – kidneys appear normal but may show early signs like protein in urine.
Stage 2: eGFR 60–90 – slight changes in creatinine; damage may still be mild.
Stage 3 (A & B): eGFR 30–60 – clear signs of kidney impairment.
Stage 4: eGFR 15–30 – symptoms like fatigue, poor appetite, and weakness begin to appear.
Stage 5 (ESRD): eGFR below 15 – kidney function is severely reduced; dialysis is often recommended.

𝗘𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗡𝗼 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗦𝘆𝗺𝗽𝘁𝗼𝗺𝘀

In the initial phases of kidney damage, the disease often progresses without any obvious signs. Most patients remain unaware until more than 50% of kidney function is already lost. This silent progression makes early detection difficult. When symptoms do appear, they may include constant fatigue, nausea or vomiting, itchy skin, and shortness of breath. Because these signs develop gradually, diagnosis is often delayed until Stage 3 or Stage 4, when significant damage has already occurred.

Stopping further damage is the first step. This involves managing conditions like high blood pressure and diabetes, and treating the root cause. Once progression is controlled, the healing begins.
