When I Call Your Name - Emily Fern & Tim Osborne

‘When I Call Your Name’ was written for a short film based on a true story during WW2. This was my first go at writing a song in over 35 years.

'Stirling's War' is the story of RAF fighter pilot Robert Stirling who ended up in a German prisoner-of-war camp after parachuting out of his aircraft over the German-occupied Channel Island of Guernsey one night in April 1941.

When he was repatriated back to the UK at the end of the war, he found out that his 20 year-old younger brother who, unbeknown to him, had joined the British Parachute Regiment while he was a prisoner-of-war, had been killed in action in Operation Market Garden in September 1944. His body was never found.

Robert never really got over his brother's death and it affected him for the rest of his life because of guilt that he survived but his brother didn’t.

This song is a tribute to those service men and women of all nationalities during WW2 who were either killed or missing in action, and who never came home.

Guernsey singer Emily Fern was chosen to sing it, and her voice carries the emotion in the song beautifully.
