Untold stories of flood victims. In this program our panel discuss the plight of flood victim. The recent floods in Punjab, Pakistan, have left a trail of destruction, affecting over 4.1 million people across 4,100 villages in 25 districts. At least 56 people have lost their lives, and thousands have been displaced. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has reported that 20,073,048 people have been rescued and relocated to safe areas, while 15,022,452 cattle have been moved to safer locations.
The floods have submerged hundreds of villages, damaging homes, crops, and infrastructure. In Kasur district, 72 villages were inundated, affecting 450,000 residents, while Bahawalnagar suffered significant damage, with 75 villages affected. The Sutlej River has been particularly destructive, flooding 335 villages and impacting 380,768 people.
Relief efforts are underway, with 425 relief camps and tent cities established to provide temporary shelter and food. Over 500 medical camps have been set up, treating nearly 175,000 patients. The Pakistan Army is actively involved in rescue operations, with 39,638 people evacuated from flood-affected areas.
The floods have also damaged agricultural land, livestock, and infrastructure, leading to significant economic losses. The government has announced compensation for affected farmers, with Rs20,000 per acre allocated for crop losses. Our panel also pointed the Challenges Ahead:
