As a pluralistic society, the freedom of religious belief and the freedom of conscience are protected by Hong Kong’s constitutional document, the Basic Law.

Buddhism and Taoism each count more than one million followers, together with hundreds of temples and abbeys. The Christian community numbers more than 850,000, including Protestants and Roman Catholics, along with Greek, Russian and Coptic Orthodox churches. Islam, Hinduism, Confucianism, Sikhism and Judaism, among other religions, count a considerable number of adherents.
Collectively, their presence is visible not only in their diverse places of worship but in long-established schools, health and welfare facilities and even major tourism sites. Among the latter is Lantau Island’s Po Lin Monastery and its seated bronze Buddha statue, Tian Tan, which sits 34 metres high.

This is Hong Kong, where cultures and faiths of all creeds live, and worship, in peace and harmony.
