Sabaton | Emotional Reaction to 1916 (Motorhead Cover)

Y'all recommended I do this, I did and I was not ok! I don't think I have ever cried so much through a reaction video, so to you in the comments who said I should do this....thank you but how could you 🥲.

BACKSTORY

‪@Sabaton‬ released this never-before-heard cover of Motorhead's iconic track 1916 in celebration of their last EP in the Echoes Of The Great War EP trilogy entitled Stories From The Western Front. This video is a veritable feast of historical figures and brings together so many aspects of WWI but also the metal scene.

This might be one of the best and most endearing covers I have ever heard. The love, passion and care put into this video and how Sabaton performed this song with so much respect is so palpable throughout.

This is my first time seeing the video and the second-time ever hearing it. I'd only just heard it for the first time the week before at Sabaton's show in Glasgow. So, my emotions were are pretty raw, so please have patience with all my mental breakdowns throughout.

This video is a touching tribute to all the soldiers who went off to war and to the memory of the legendary king of metal Lemmy, who was inspired to write this song after watching a documentary on the Battle of the Somme. In the documentary a veteran reminisced about his friend dying in his arms with half his face blown off, which is reflected in the lyrics and the video.

This song absolutely went right to my soul. I was such a crying mess I even managed to miss spotting cameos by ‪@motorhead‬ guitarist Phil Campbell and drummer Mickey Dee, the last two surviving members of the band. However, it warms my heart knowing that they gave their blessing and participated in this video.

If you hang around to the end I share with you some first-hand material from WWI that is personal to my family and spoiler alert I cry even more.
