In 2014, a previously unknown prehistoric stone avenue was discovered running from Avebury over Waden Hill toward Silbury Hill. Now known as Silbury Avenue, this newly identified processional route aligns with a series of green patch marks visible via enhanced aerial photography—suggesting a 1.47 km corridor with at least 19 stone pairs.

🪨 Unlike West Kennet Avenue, which zig-zags awkwardly into Avebury, this line is straight, planned, and arguably much older. Its geometry suggests West Kennet was a later extension grafted onto the original ceremonial line.

📏 Key features include:
• 25 m average stone spacing
• 15–20 m wide route corridor
• Barrow groupings post-dating the avenue
• Termination at Silbaby – a riverside loading platform, not Silbury Hill directly

🌊 Importantly, Silbury Hill was likely surrounded by deep water when the avenue was built. The true endpoint wasn’t the hill, but Silbaby—a mound on the edge of the spring-fed floodplain, acting as a logistical handover point for goods and ritual passage.

🚧 This discovery rewrites Avebury's landscape sequence and burial pattern, proving again that modern archaeology often looks the wrong way—literally.
