Sui Lu is a former Chinese gymnast. In 2004, she was accepted into the Chinese national squad and from then on made an appearance on the adult circuit. At the national championships in 2007, she won gold on the balance beam and secured gold in the women's team all-around for Shanghai for the first time in 27 years. This was followed by another gold medal in floor exercise at the national championships in 2008, beating such future Olympic champions as Cheng Fei, Jiang Yuyuan, Li Shanshan and Deng Linlin. 🇨🇳
Due to her consistent performances and success at the 2012 National Championships in Shanghai, where she won gold on balance beam and with the team as well as bronze on floor, Sui was nominated for the 30th Summer Olympics in London 2012. In an interview, Sui revealed that she thought about retiring prematurely after being excluded from the Chinese squad at the 2008 Olympic Games, but remained loyal to the sport due to the support of her coaches. At the Olympic Games, the then 20-year-old competed on her specialty apparatus. While she failed to qualify in floor exercise with a 13th place, she made it to the final with eight athletes as the first-placed qualifier on the balance beam. In the balance beam final, she won the silver medal 0.1 points behind her compatriot Deng Linlin. 🥈
