I've seen this deck played and I found the answer to my question "Is cranial plating ever coming back?" The answer that I got is a YES but not the way I expected it.

This is my take on the Rakdos affinity deck. Most that I have seen uses the artifact lands that comes into play tapped which is really good if you want to maximize the damage you get from cranial ram but for me that kind of setup is slow. As an agro player I want to start the phase as quickly as possible and so I don't want any tapped lands during early turns.

I have monstrous rage as a surprise card to grant not only another artifact, but also a +2 damage AND a trample attribute when needed. I have steel overseer to pump all of my artifact creatures and I have Liberator, Urza's battlethopter as really good card because it gives our artifacts the flash ability.
