Step inside We Had One of Those, the fully interactive, retro-themed exhibition at Beaulieu’s National Motor Museum. Opened in April 2025 and now welcoming visitors into 2026, this permanent attraction invites you to sit inside and explore the most popular and memorable vehicles from the 1960s, 70s, 80s, 90s and early 2000s. It’s a true celebration of everyday motoring history—filled with vehicles that generations of families will instantly recognise.

From the VW Beetle and Morris Minor to the Ford Capri, Vauxhall Cavalier and MG ZS, visitors can get hands-on with the dashboards, buttons and steering wheels that once defined Britain’s roads. Each vehicle is surrounded by authentic era-specific props including cassette tapes, beaded seat covers, fluffy dice and vintage accessories, making this a truly immersive experience.

We Had One of Those replaced the long-running World of Top Gear exhibition, which paid tribute to the golden era of Top Gear starring Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May. That iconic BBC series became a global TV phenomenon with its mix of cars, chaos and comedy. The Beaulieu attraction showcased real challenge cars from the show, road trip vehicles, and unforgettable creations. After leaving Top Gear, the trio went on to front The Grand Tour on Amazon Prime, while Clarkson later launched Clarkson’s Farm, both of which found huge success with loyal fans. Inside the We Had One of Those attraction, you’ll find an ever-changing lineup of nostalgic favourites. Some of the vehicles featured in 2026 include:

1960s and 70s highlights:
The Austin 1800 ‘Land Crab’, famous for its sideways rally handling, and the Hillman Super Minx, a classic family saloon of the era. There’s also the ever-popular Morris Minor 1000 and the VW Beetle, both instantly recognisable icons of post-war motoring. Rounding out the 70s is the Austin Allegro, often joked about but widely sold and affectionately remembered.

1980s favourites:
See the Vauxhall Cavalier MkII, once a staple of British driveways, and the Nissan Micra, Britain’s reliable supermini. Don’t miss the sporty Ford Capri, the car you always promised yourself.

1990s and noughties nostalgia:
The Ford Fiesta Mk III, Ford Mondeo, and MG ZS capture the heart of everyday 90s motoring, while more recent models like the Renault Avantime and VW Golf Mk4 represent the final days before cars went digital. These are the vehicles that filled car parks, school runs, and family holidays, now celebrated in one place.

Beaulieu, located in the heart of the New Forest in Hampshire, is home to the National Motor Museum, one of the UK’s leading collections of historic cars, bikes and motoring memorabilia.
