Today the city of Buena Park welcomes the new Fire Station 61 during a grand opening ceremony held at the new station. On Thursday, January 12, 2017, the Old Station 61 burned down during a fire that occurred in the early morning and the blaze left the structure heavily damaged and 4 emergency vehicles were destroyed. After the devastating loss, OCFA and Buena Park city official came together to build a new station to house the crew of Station 61. While the station was being rebuilt, the crew of Station 61 spent a few weeks in Anaheim Fire Station 11 before being relocated to a school which was then transformed as a temporary fire station. Now, with the station complete, the old crew of Station 61 are now running calls from their brand new home. During the ceremony, various quilts were on display. The quilts were made by members of a local quilt club that decided to make quilts for the Firefighters after they heard that several firefighters lost their quilts when the old station burnt down. The Division Chief of Buena Park was gifted a 9/11 memorial quilt as a welcoming gift. Many Buena Park residents showed up at the ceremony to show their support and to welcome the Firefighters at their new home.
