This time I want to show you the next step of the viola da gamba making process which is relief carving on front and back of head. I start with pencil sketching the ornaments and then gradually carve out the wood. In order to make relief pop and even out the background I pierce it with a bodkin. This is the second to last step before I start building the body of the instrument.
