Increasingly the media has pressurized women to fit what it defines as social norms. Su-Mei Thompson talks about how the obsession of image has begun to affect younger and younger women, who face increasing societal pressures as they grow up. As media fascination with the notion of ‘thinness’ has grown, so too have levels of eating disorders and plastic surgery for minors. She asks how unhealthy this obsession is and what it is doing to our future generations.

Thompson is the CEO of the non-profit The Women’s Foundation. Originally a corporate financial lawyer, she built up a career at companies including Disney, Financial Times and Christie’s before moving to head the NGO in 2009.
