¹ Known as the basmalah, this verse precedes almost every surah (chapter) of the Qur'an, and is also encouraged to be recited before beginning anything
² The achievements of the Prophet Muhammad in establishing Islam in spite of being illiterate are considered by Muslims to be among his greatest miracles, as well as a proof for the divinity of the Qur'an
³ This is known as the tahlīl, and is the most central dhikr (utterance for the remembrance of God) in Islam. It is considered to be an affirmation of absolute monotheism, and therefore the first half of the kalimah (declaration of Islamic faith).
