This is Scotland and the South West Coastal - a 300 mile circular route along the south-west coast of Scotland.

This was an epic adventure! Scotland has blown us away (literally!). The weather conditions were changing constantly, from heave rain, through strong winds to magnificent sunsets. We experienced it all. This part of Scotland is amazing and perfect for a few days trip or just a quick trip away.

If you're interested about the stops we chose to make along the way, here is a list:
1. Started off with an overnight park up at the Boathouse restaurant car park few miles south of Dumfries. The car park is free and it allows overnight parking for campervans and motorhomes. The restaurant serves beautiful food (pre-booking is advised because it's a very popular place).
2. From there we went south to visit the Caerlaverock Castle (the only triangular castle in Britain).
3. Moving along the southern coast, we went to Castle Douglas (not stayed long, very small and quiet town).
4. Next was Kirkcudbright. Beautiful little town located at the river Dee, with a harbour and many shops related to art. This town is considered an "artists' town".
5. After that we went to Whithorn and the Isle of Whithorn. We stayed over night in a car park (free) suitable for campervans. The car park is overlooking the sea, it's a magical place.
6. Port William - we did a rest stop here, but didn't stay long. A small coastal town, very quiet in winter.
7. Through Sand head and Dunmore we went down to the southern most tip of Scotland - the Mull of Galloway. There is a lighthouse you can walk around and amazing views across the sea and cliff tops. We came during winter season and the winds were extremely strong at that end, making it very hard to explore.
8. Back up north bound, we went to Port Logan, a beautiful little village with very nice beach and little bay, worth visiting.
9. Further up north, we stopped at the Dunskey Castle, near Port Patrick. this place should be on your list. It's an amazing place, located at the top of a very high cliff with views stretching out for miles.
10. Stranraer - we stopped for some shopping, it's one of larger towns in this area. Worth visiting, but if you don't like crowded places, avoid.
11. Next stop was Girvan, the town is located at the coast with nice views. There are plenty of free park-ups there, with one large car park right at the sea front.
12. Electric Brae - should be on your list for sure, if you're doing the SWC300, it's a lot of fun.
13. Dunure Castle - beautiful castle at the cliff top and a filming location of Outlander.
14. From there we went to Ayr - this a large town/city with many shops, stopped for supplies.
15. From there we had to shoot across due to extreme weather warnings. We managed to drive through the highest Village in Scotland Wanlockhead and then went to Lead hills (next to it) to the highest located residential hotel in Scotland. The hotel has a pub with nice food and they allow campervans to stay at their car park (to the back), free of charge (two pitches have electric!).

If you have any more questions, please put them in the comments section below, we would love to hear from you!
