What Made the Junk Ship Unique?

Описание к видео What Made the Junk Ship Unique?

The junk ship is heavily associated with China and east Asia. Its most distinguishing feature is its sails, which are marked by horisontal battens to stiffen it. This made the sail less efficient in the wind, but easier to handle making for a smaller crew.
Although the junk is associated with China it is of Austronesian design having spread to China from Indonesia.
The junk is also distinguished by employing a larger rudder rather than a keel to keep direction in the water. The structure of the hull is mostly kept by many strenghtening comparments inside.
