Apple trees can be pruned in the spring or the summer. They are easier to prune in the spring, when the lack of leaves allows for greater visibility, making it easier to see which branches need pruning. However, pruning them in the summer is beneficial if you want to slow down the growth.

If you’re just removing diseased or dead wood, you can prune whenever you like.

Start the pruning process by assessing your tree and making a plan. Take a moment to analyse the shape, and try to imagine what you would like the tree to look like when done.
