Mr Deepak Gupta is a former UPSC Chairman (2014-16) who is currently the Honorary Director-General of the National Solar Energy Federation of India (NSEFI). An IAS officer of the 1974 batch, Mr. Gupta was Secretary to the Government of India, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. During his stint at the MNRE, he was responsible for the conceptualisation and implementation of the National Solar Mission. After his retirement in 2011, Mr. Gupta consulted with the World Bank and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization. He is also a prolific writer on issues related to sustainable development and energy.
