1. Direct speech helps to improve a narrative but it needs to be accurately punctuated and paragraphed.

2. Students should ensure that tenses are sequential and consistent and that agreement is considered.

3. Some students lost natural fluency by attempting to use overly complex vocabulary.

4. For directed writing, some candidates merely listed far too many ideas. It would have been better off supplying greater detail for fewer ideas.

5. The lack of and misuse of definite and indefinite articles limits the fluency of a response considerably.
