Applied anatomy
* If swelling in the parotid gland, it becomes very painful because it is enclosed in a closed space between the split two layers of the investing deep cervical fascia of the neck.

* Frey’s syndrome
- After injuries in the parotid region (cut wounds), during healing a cross-linkage
between the auriculotemporal and great auricular nerves may occur.
- This leads to skin redness and sweating in the skin over the parotid region when
there is a stimulus for salivation (such as seeing food).
