How was Professor Layton created?

When you think of Nintendo DS games, there are few specific series that come to mind, one of which being the Professor Layton series. And so, today we'll be looking at the development history of the very first title in the series, Professor Layton and the Curious Village, developed by Level 5.

So a bit of background - despite being born in 2002 and so being around at the height of the DS's success, I never actually owned one myself; my first console was a 3ds, which I bought only a few years ago. Because of that, I didn't play any of the Layton games until much more recently. Despite that, I really enjoyed playing them and thought they (or rather, Curious Village) would be the perfect candidate for a development history!
