This TikTok trend is taking the world by storm. They're fun and easy to sing along to or even quietly listen. But where do we get the word shanty from, how did they come about and what was its purpose? This video hopes to answer those question, and give a couple of examples along the way!!! I hope you enjoy it and despite a sea shanty not needing musical instrumental accompaniment, I have included a couple of background plays of some famous shanty's ('Haul Away Joe' and of course 'The Wellerman')
