The Fender American Ultra II Jazz Bass takes a legendary instrument and does the seemingly impossible by adding updates and refinements. Enhanced playability inspires limitless grooves with sculpted body contours, Modern D profile, quartersawn maple neck with Ultra Satin finish, 10" to 14" compound radius maple or ebony fingerboard with rolled edges, tapered neck heel and Luminlay side dots. The Ultra II Jazz Bass also offers incredible tonal muscle that starts with two Ultra II Noiseless Vintage Jazz pickups. Then, there’s a redesigned preamp featuring Fender’s S-1 switching for active or passive operation, a midrange frequency selector (325 Hz or 750 Hz) and 3-band active EQ.

Playing on the Ultra II’s neck pickup in passive mode is a cool way to emulate that rounder P Bass sound. But I love that you can hit the S-1 switch and turn it to active when it’s time to kick it up. When the drums kick, you can really get down to the nitty gritty.
