10 hours of rain in the rainforest - no loop

Falling asleep to the sound of rain in the rainforest is one of the most memorable experiences of my life. This 10 hour soundscape recording will help you experience some of that (minus the insects).

Many years ago I made it my mission to document and record the world's rainforests. One thing that is certain about rainforests (for now) is that things are going to get wet. I've had to come up with a variety of tricks and workflows to keep my equipment from succumbing to humidity. I've also had to get used to functioning and working in extreme heat and humidity, swarmed on by insects and with only a thin mosquito net between myself and the jungle at night.

After 5 expeditions to 4 rainforests spread over 3 years, I feel like I'm getting somewhere. I'm nowhere close to recording all rainforests but I have a deeper understanding of what it feels like to be immersed in the jungle. I have the tools needed to capture these experiences and the platform to share them with listeners and followers. I've researched many other locations I want to record and I will talk more about it as countries open up.

The soundscapes you're listening to were recorded in the Amazon, Borneo and Congo rainforests and in the Ethiopian cloud forest. I used a variety of equipment including recorders like the Sony A10, D10, M10, D100 and Sound Devices 633; microphones like the Sennheiser MKH 8020, MKH8040, MKH30; Lom mikroUsi; Micbooster Clippy, DPA 4060 etc. Some of these (especially the lavs) sadly did not survive the excessive humidity. As the title says, this soundscape isn't looped. There was some light editing and cleaning involved but I tried to keep the recordings as close to the real thing as possible.
