This 12 minute offering highlights one (of many) of Newfoundland's scenic coastal peninsulas - - Twillingate Island and the town of Twillingate. For many of us, Newfoundland is a not-often visited - - itself an island - - at the mouth of the St. Lawrence Seaway. For perspective we thought a couple of maps would be helpful.

We have superimposed our 3,000+ mile (US) campervan 'track file' onto an overall map of Newfoundland. Our exploration commenced at Port aux Basques in the southwestern tip of Newfoundland after a 110 mile, 7 hour ferry ride from North Sidney, Nova Scotia. Our adventure continued generally 'clockwise' to - - a month later - - Argentia where we caught the much longer 320 mile, 16 hour ferry back to Nova Scotia. There is a third ferry from the very north tip of Newfoundland at St. Barbe to Blanc Sablon, Quebec. As reflected by the track file, we took this diversion including a couple of day trek as far a Red Bay, Labrador.

Twillingate is arguably best known for its lighthouse on the north tip of Long Point. The Twillingate/Long Point lighthouse sits more than 300 feet above the Atlantic providing breathtaking views of islands, whales, fishing and tour boats and, of course, the often-angry surf pounding the irregular, jagged coastal shoreline. And, if you’re there early enough in the year, you’ll likely glimpse icebergs as they drift offshore. We did glimpse icebergs, but not at this location.

Our video reveals several coastal settlements as we worked our way south from Long Point (on North Twillingate island) to the fishing village of Twillingate, itself. We have again used a local map to locate these points.

The numerous photos of the Twillingate marina make clear that this village relies heavily on fishing. But our closing ‘clip’ depicts what might be ‘just-as-famous’ as the lighthouse, the Twillingate Dinner Theatre. Our last-minute reservation placed us in the rear - - so our video isn’t the best. Yet, you can tell by the clapping and overall crowd enthusiasm that this is an event worth undertaking. (The sound-track of this video was borrowed from the Dinner Theatre).
